JOB DESCRIPTION

SENIOR MINISTER

The Cliff View Church of Christ Senior Minister is responsible for providing spiritual

direction according to doctrine as proclaimed by God’s word as described in II Timothy

4:1-5 and Titus 1:5-9. He will be a part of the church leadership along with the Eldership.

The Senior Minister must encourage, inspire, and motivate current members of the

congregation while leading new souls to Christ. He must lead this congregation in constant

prayer and the ministry of the Word. As he leads by example, his character, temperance,

hospitality, and ability to manage his own house well, will be an example to the

congregation. He will faithfully lead the members of Cliff View, seeking their growth to

spiritual maturity, and equipping them for the work of the ministry. He will guard against

false teaching and straying from the faith. He will encourage the church by engaging in

pastoral care and/or counseling by providing Christian support in all aspects of life’s

journey.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

M I N I S T R Y

  1. The Senior Minister will devote himself to the study of God’s Word. He will lead in the

coordination of the overall education and edification of the body. This includes Bible

classes, Sunday school, workshops, seminars, and other aspects that will lead the

congregation to spiritual maturity.

  1. The Senior Minister will plan and conduct worship services by preparing and delivering

relevant and applicable sermons based on sound doctrine. These sermons will be

consistent with the Mission and Vision of the Cliff View Church of Christ.

  1. The Senior Minister will collaborate with the Elders to coordinate the preaching

schedule for worship services. The Senior Minister is expected to be the primary

preacher during “All” Sunday services and to ensure that the pulpit is filled by faithful

preachers when he is absent.

  1. The Senior Minister will collaborate with and support all ministries at Cliff View. These

ministries include but are not limited to Ladies Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Youth

Ministry, Senior Ministry, P.E.T.S., Food Pantry, etc.

O R D E R O F W O R S H I P

  1. The Senior Minister should be willing to serve in rotation in the order of worship with

the brethren on services such as the reading of scripture, responsive invitation, and

prayer.

  1. The Senior Minister will collaborate with the song leader on creating a worship

experience that edifies the body.

  1. The Senior Minister will collaborate with Elders and the designated committee on the

coordination of baptisms and teaching thereafter.

M E M B E R S H I P

  1. The Senior Minister will possess strong interpersonal skills that will preserve the

unity of the church, build a culture of love for one another, lead members through

reconciliation, and a keen spirit to expand community outreach.

  1. The Senior Minister will exhibit the spirit of Christ by creating a caring church

environment through small groups, callouts, prayer efforts, letters of encouragement,

and assistance in transitioning new members into the fold.

  1. The Senior Minister will be able to cultivate and nurture relationships throughout the

many cross sectors of the church. This includes youth, senior saints, singles, married

couples, and widows (er)s.

  1. The Senior Minister along with the Eldership will provide leadership to situations of

church discipline, following Scripture (e.g., Matthew 18:15-20, 1 Corinthians 5:1-5).

  1. The Senior Minister must be sound in the oracles of God, and when not, the Eldership

will use spiritual guidance as their appointed work as overseers to mitigate any issues

following Scripture (e.g., Acts 20:28-31, Titus 1:5-9).

P A S T O R A L C A R E

  1. The Senior Minister will collaborate with the Elders and P.E.T.S. to ensure each member

of the church receives ongoing pastoral care.

  1. The Senior Minister will provide counseling to church members and, if necessary, refer

members to trusted counselors outside of the church.

  1. The Senior Minister will conduct visits to hospitalized members, widows, and shut-ins,

and perform requested services (e.g., weddings, funerals) as appropriate.

E V A N G E L I S M

  1. The Senior Minster will serve as an example of personal evangelism. He will create

opportunities that will equip the congregation in spreading God’s Word.

  1. The Senior Minister will encourage and lead the church to declare the gospel in the

community and among the nations following Matthew 28:19-20.

B R O T H E R H O O D

  1. The Senior Minister will assist in creating a loving and hospitable environment in

which the brotherhood and community will feel welcomed for having come.

  1. The Senior Minster will encourage and lead the congregation to participate with other

congregations throughout the brotherhood (e.g., musicals, symposiums, lectureships,

etc.)

  1. The Senior Minister will collaborate with local and national officials of The Church in

representing the Churches of Christ in civic and social matters approved by the

Eldership.

O V E R S I G H T

  1. The Senior Minister will understand that the Eldership has been appointed for the

overseeing of the Body. He will understand that the Vision, Mission, and direction will

come through his teaching and preaching.

COMPENSATION: Cliff View Church of Christ’s annual budget provides salary and benefits

to the Senior Minister to be determined during the interviewing and hiring process.

The Senior Minister will be considered a full-time employee. However, the church expects

the Senior Minister to prioritize his time to fully support the needs of the church while at

the same time getting adequate rest.
